is the pen name of a Basque cognitive scientist, published poet, performer, stand-up and cabaret act, and video artist living in London. His creative work includes: concrete and 'clickable' poetry, body art and multimedia performance (video, sound, word). As a promoter, he has hosted literary events such as Homophone, GLAM SLAM UK and Velvet Tongue.
His pamphlet "In the name of the flesh”, based on his Edinburgh Fringe show of the same name, was published by William Cornelius Harris Publishing in December 2014.
Ernesto’s sonnet “The Fall” features as a song in Othon Mataragas’ award winning album, IMPERMANENCE (Nov. 2011), sung by Ernesto Tomasini.
Ernesto was "July" in The Naked Muse Calendar 2012, a "naked male poets" calendar produced by Wild Women Press to raise money for JDRF, a charity that supports research on type 1 diabetes.
Ernesto's work usually deals with the 'queer body', exploring the paradoxes and complexities of sexual intimacy and the roles language and technology play in our every day life and in the way we perceive ourselves and our bodies. Indeed, a lot of Ernesto's work deals with intimacy, as exemplified in his participation in two art projects bearing that word ('intimacy') in their name: one at Goldsmiths University and one by Completely Naked.
The Edinburgh Fringe premiere of Ernesto's one-man show In the Name of the Flesh, presented in August 2010 to thriving audiences, was featured as one of the year's festival highlights in Time Out. In the Name of the Flesh had been previewed, to critical acclaim, at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern (Hot August Fringe 2009 & HAF Highlights 2010) and at the Etcetera Theatre (Camden Fringe 2008), after being "scratched" at UNDERCONSTRUCTION (Bistrotheque), the Battersea Arts Centre ("Scratch Night") and The Barons Court Theatre (Write Side of the Brain festival) - among other outlets - at its various stages of development.
Erotic Award Winner for Poet of the Year 2010, Ernesto is notorious for his celebrated 'bellybutton poem', for his unorthodox approaches to performance poetry and - even - for the controversy his written words can stir at online poetry forums. Ernesto has been active for several years now in the
London spoken word scene.
He founded and co-hosted Homophone, an acclaimed series of poetry readings at the Poetry Cafe in 2002. He has also brought to London the GLAM SLAM, which was staged with great success at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern (2008-2009) and at The Book Club in Shoreditch (2010-2011). He has also hosted the erotic literary soiree Velvet Tongue. Ernesto was shortlisted for Shortfuse Poetry Idol in April 2004 and was the Central London Farrago Poetry Slam Champion 2006, as well as the winner of the Farrago Zoo Award for "Best Performance by a performer working in English and another language" in 2007. He has taken part in multiple open mic readings and has performed as a featured performer at many spoken word/comedy events, including The Jazz Verse Jukebox (at Ronnie Scott's, sharing the bill with the legendary Michael Horovitz), Polari (at the Southbank Centre), UTTER, The Book Club Boutique,Spoken Space @ The International Workshop Festival, Surrealist Tea Party, RRRants poetry, Total Writing London, Speakeasy, Touch Me I’m Sick, SpeechMotion, Take Your Own Poison, The Poetry Shack, Hip Heaven, Spoonful of Poison, etc., mostly in London and the UK (including the Edinburgh Fringe, Manchester's Queer Up North, Brighton and Glasgow) but also in San Francisco (Smack Dab, Perverts Put Out), New York (Bowery Poetry Club, LouderARTS), Montreal, Madrid and Barcelona; winning the odd comedy gong show (e.g. "Stand Up and Coming" Dec 2008) or comedy competition (Comedy Heat's 'Asylum!', July 2011) along the way.
A runner-up at the Final of London's first Male Tournament of Tease, Ernesto has performed his mixture of poetry, storytelling, comedy and burlesque at some of the best-known
cabaret
outlets in London: Madam JoJo's (Cabaret des Courtesans, Finger in the Pie), Ronnie Scotts (Jazz Verse Jukebox), Bethnal Green Working Men's Club (Whoopee's Hip Hip, Sweet'n'Sour, Male Tournament of Tease, The Double R club), Cobden Club (Rockabaret), Bistrotheque (Hanky Panky, Jonny Woo's Variety show), Royal Vauxhall Tavern (Duckie, Vauxhallville, BARELESQUE), Phoenix Artist Club (Peter Tatchell Fundraiser Cabaret Nite), The Apothecary (Eat Your Heart Out), Turnmills (Pas de Piaf, Whoo Har, Late Late Lunch), Chats Palace (The Last Great Taboo), Charterhouse bar (Subterfuge cabaret). He has been billed at a variety of art night clubs (Kashpoint, KAOS,
